A Benefit for Cobb County Current and Former Employees
GA HOUSE BILL 146
House Bill 146 became effective January 1, 2018. Stating:
On and after January 1, 2018, a legally organized fire department shall provide and maintain sufficient insurance coverage on each member of the fire department who is a firefighter to pay claims for cancer diagnosed after having served 12 consecutive months as a firefighter with such fire department.

CONTINUATION OF INSURANCE
If after at least one year as a firefighter for the Policyholder, the Insured departs from employment, ceases to be a volunteer, or retires, and if an Insured’s insurance ends because his or her employment ends, he or she ceases to be a volunteer, or he or she retires, the Insured may continue insurance for the Plan Benefits shown.
CONTINUATION BROCHURE
To continue insurance, the Insured must submit a request for insurance Enrollment Form and pay the required premium.
If an Insured does not continue insurance within 31 days after his or her eligibility under Class 1 or Class 2 ends, he or she may not elect to continue coverage at a later date. An Insured who continues insurance in this manner will become a Former Insured.
