Supplemental Group Life Insurance
The group life insurance plan offers the option to obtain low cost Group Term Life insurance on employee, spouse and dependent children. This is in addition to the Group life insurance provided to all employees by the County, and is in addition to any individual insurance you may have with Shenandoah Life or Trustmark.
If applied for when first eligible or when first hired, coverage is issued on a guarantee issue basis. Application and increases during annual enrollment require evidence of insurability acceptable to the insurance company.
The Group Supplement Life is designed to protect you and your family while employed with Troup County. Coverage terminates upon retirement or termination of employment.
Employee Optional Life - Each employee is eligible to select from $10,000 up to $50,000 additional group life insurance coverage, in $10,000 increments. If applied for when first eligible $50,000 can be issued on a guarantee issue basis. Semi-Monthly payroll deduction costs are based on age as of July 1st, per the below table:

Spouse and Child Supplemental Group Life - Each employee is eligible to select either $5,000 or $10,000 of coverage on their spouse and each dependent child. If applied for when first eligible, coverage is issued on a guarantee issue basis.
If both employee and spouse are employees of Troup County, only one can apply for the Dependent Life coverage. Employee cannot be covered as both an employee and dependent and dependent children cannot be double covered.
Spouse covered up to age 75. All dependent children up through age 20 or 24 if full-time student are covered for the benefit amount selected.

- Maximum amount provided is $50,000. The minimum benefit is $10,000.
- Includes an Accelerated Death Benefit which allows you to receive up to 50% in the event of a terminal illness. To be a terminal illness, the life expectancy must be no longer than 12 months.
- A Premium Waiver provision is included which will allow coverage to be continued without premium payment until age 65 if an employee becomes totally and permanently disabled prior to the age 60 and the disability lasts for at least 9 months.
- Coverage terminates upon termination of employment or eligibility, retirement or termination of the group policy
- Employees may convert their group life insurance coverage to a whole life individual policy issued by The Standard within 31 days after termination of employment or eligibility, or reduction of Life Insurance due to age, pension, retirement, or policy discontinuance in whole or in part (conversion on policy discontinuance is limited to $2,000).
