Benefits at a Glance
The group life insurance plan is insured by Standard Life Insurance Company.
- Premiums are paid 100% by Troup County.
- Amount of coverage is equal to one time your annual salary, rounded up to the next higher $1,000.
- Maximum amount provided is $50,000. The minimum benefit is $15,000.
- Includes an equal amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
- Includes an Accelerated Death Benefit which allows you to receive up to 50% in the event of a terminal illness. To be a terminal illness, the life expectancy must be no longer than 12 months.
- A Premium Waiver provision is included which will allow coverage to be continued without premium payment until age 65 if an employee becomes totally and permanently disabled prior to the age 60 and the disability lasts for at least 9 months. To continue coverage under the waiver of premium provision, a claim must be filed within 12 months of the employee's last day worked.
- Coverage terminates upon termination of employment or eligibility, retirement or termination of the group policy
- Employees may convert their group life insurance coverage to a whole life individual policy issued by The Standard within 31 days after termination of employment or eligibility, or reduction of Life Insurance due to age, pension, retirement, or policy discontinuance in whole or in part (conversion on policy discontinuance is limited to $2,000).
